      What is it?
    
  
 
  
    It is inflammation of the lateral epicondyle
   
  
    
      Epidemiology
    
  
 
  
    Most common elbow complaint 
  
    More commonly affects people between the ages of 30 and 50 years but can occur at any age 
  
    Most commonly occurs in manual workers and in sports athletes 
  
    Can also occur with other activites. 
   
  
    
      Aetiology
    
  
 
  
    Caused by a tear or degeneration of the extensor muscle origin at the lateral epicondyle
  
    Most commonly associated with extensor carpi radialis tendon
  
    
      Most commonly occurs as a result of overuse of the forearm muscles (extensor) 
    
      Can also ocur as a result of a direct blow to the outer aspect of the elbow.
